A striking image of a common frog reflected in a golden pool has been named the overall winner of the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) 2025 Photography Competition. Other notable winners include a winter lake scene and a bee covered in pollen.

Launched in May, the competition featured eight categories, including mobile phone photography and “nature on your doorstep,” inviting wildlife enthusiasts of all ages to capture scenes at BBOWT’s reserves or in their local communities. Peter Smith’s winning photograph, taken at Letcombe Valley Nature Reserve, perfectly captures the reflective amphibian in late afternoon sunlight, turning the water a rich golden hue.

Peter received a bird-feeder camera and treats from Vine House Farm, a wildlife photography masterclass with Steve Gozdz of GG Wildlife Experiences, and the honour of featuring in BBOWT’s 2026 calendar.

The competition also included a public vote for a ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the first time. Nearly 2,000 votes were cast, with Thomas Roberts winning for his capture of great-crested grebe chicks riding on their parent’s back.

Over 250 entries were judged by BBOWT’s Wild Magazine editor Ben Vanheems, membership assistant Beth Milner, 2024 People’s Choice finalist Jo Brown, and wildlife photographer Steve Gozdz. The judges noted the exceptional standard of submissions, highlighting the compelling stories and fresh perspectives captured across the entries.
