After months of anticipation, the cult burger brand The Beefy Boys has finally lifted the lid on its brand-new Oxford restaurant — and it’s looking every bit as bold and playful as fans might have hoped.
Opening its doors officially on Saturday, 04 October, the Westgate Oxford rooftop site has already revealed its first images, giving us a glimpse of what’s set to become one of the city’s buzziest new food spots.
Inside the Oxford restaurant
The new 100-cover restaurant has all the hallmarks of The Beefy Boys’ signature aesthetic — irreverent, high-energy, and proudly burger-obsessed. At its heart is a striking bar serving cocktails, mocktails, ciders, spirits, and a well-curated beer selection that spans premium Hawkestone lager, freshly tanked brews from Somer Valley Brewing, and local pours from Tap Social Movement.
Towards the back, a lively open kitchen keeps the action on show, while neon signage and playful wall art trace the Beefy Boys’ journey from back-garden BBQs to international acclaim.
The menu
Of course, the main event is the burgers. Expect to see fan favourites like The Dirty Boy and The Oklahoma Onion Boy alongside loaded fries, chicken wings, tenders, vegetarian options, and a line-up of indulgent “hard shakes” — boozy, dessert-like milkshakes designed for those who like to finish strong.
From Hereford to Oxford
It’s been quite the ride for The Beefy Boys since four childhood friends fired up their first barbecue in Hereford back in 2011. Just three years later, they took second place at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, a win that catapulted them into the burger big leagues. Today, they run five restaurants across Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, Bath, and now Oxford — plus two roving food trucks — and their reputation has gone global.
Most recently, they returned to the World Food Championships in 2024, placing fourth in the world — a reminder, if it were needed, that Oxford diners are about to get one of the planet’s best burgers right on their doorstep.
“We can’t wait to finally bring The Beefy Boys to Oxford as it’s a city we’ve wanted to be in for a long time,” says co-founder Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy. “The Burger Testers soft launch is our way of giving locals the first bite and saying thank you for welcoming us.”
Westgate Oxford’s Centre Director, Brendan Hattam, is just as enthusiastic: “The space looks amazing, and we’re confident The Beefy Boys will be a fantastic addition to our food and drink line-up.”
The verdict
With its rooftop setting, playful design, and a menu that’s as indulgent as it is award-winning, The Beefy Boys Oxford feels primed to be more than just another burger joint. From casual lunches to late-night hangs, it’s shaping up to be the city’s new go-to for burger lovers.
Burger testers wanted
Ahead of its grand opening, The Beefy Boys are running a month-long soft launch with a typically tongue-in-cheek twist. From Monday, 08 September to Friday, 03 October, Oxford foodies can sign up as official “Burger Testers”, receiving 20% off food in return for honest feedback on the menu and service. The catch? Spaces are limited, and early slots are already being snapped up. Advance booking is essential.
