As the summer sun warms the streets of Oxford, there’s a new reason to venture out on a Sunday – and it’s not your average roast. Oxford’s newest boutique bolthole, The Store, is inviting locals and visitors alike to spice up their weekends with a sizzling new tradition: Summer Sunday Lunch, featuring its centrepiece showstopper, The Smoke Platter.

Taking its cue from long, lazy summer afternoons, The Store’s new Sunday offering swaps out the classic roast for something slower, smokier, and made to share. Served from noon every Sunday across all dining areas, including the rooftop terrace, streetside Broad Street tables, and the hotel’s stylish ground-floor restaurant, Treadwell, this is a feast designed for both food lovers and sun seekers.

At the heart of the new menu is The Smoke Platter – a mouthwatering medley of Cajun chicken, baby back ribs, smoked beef sausage, chuck roast, peppered sweetcorn riblets, and all the seasonal trimmings. Think celeriac slaw, crispy parmentier potatoes, apple ketchup, and house BBQ sauce – bold flavours, big portions, and all the smoky, sticky deliciousness you’d expect from a summer sharing board.

It’s the latest in a string of inspired dining launches from The Store, following May’s debut of ‘Ribs n’ Rum’ on the Roof’, a rooftop experience combining panoramic views with Caribbean-inspired flavours and expertly mixed rum cocktails. The Summer Sunday Lunch continues this laid-back, sociable theme – an excuse to gather, graze, and sip your way through a lazy afternoon.

Diners can indulge in The Smoke Platter for two at £65 or raise the bar with two Hama Rum Mojitos for £80. With walk-ins welcome and options to sit inside or out, it’s a relaxed yet refined way to wrap up the weekend – made for clinking glasses and licking fingers.

A New Chapter for an Oxford Icon

Since opening in May 2024, The Store has quickly become a focal point of Oxford’s hospitality scene.

Housed within the beautifully restored walls of the former Boswells department store, this striking seven-storey property combines historical grandeur with modern flair. A collaboration between Reef Origin, EQ Group, and Urban R, the hotel is more than just a place to stay – it’s a vibrant lifestyle destination.

From immersive retail-inspired displays to a ground-floor café pouring Oxford’s own Newground Coffee – everything at The Store is curated to surprise and delight. Treadwell, the hotel’s main restaurant, offers a fresh spin on British classics, while the rooftop bar provides a jaw-dropping vantage point over Oxford’s dreaming spires—especially golden at sunset.
