Oxford’s New Theatre has hosted Rambert Dance Company’s hit production Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby.
Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and choreographed by Rambert’s Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer, the show has been a huge success, captivating over 100,000 audience members, many of whom were new to live dance, during its first run. The production is now touring across the UK this autumn, following high demand.
The stage adaptation of Peaky Blinders captures the gripping story through powerful performances by Rambert’s dancers, enhanced by a live on-stage band. The musical score, led by Director Yaron Engler and composed by Roman GianArthur, features iconic tracks by Nick Cave, Radiohead, Anna Calvi, and more. Rambert’s production has earned praise for bringing a fresh, dynamic interpretation of the Peaky Blinders narrative to life.
Rambert’s creative team for the production includes set design by Moi Tran, lighting by Natasha Chivers, and costumes by Richard Gellar. The team worked with fight director Adrian Derrick-Palmer, intimacy director Yarit Dor, and illusionist Filipe J. Carvalho, ensuring the show’s dramatic elements are visually striking. The production also aired on BBC 4 on 01 January as part of the broadcaster’s Christmas programming.
Both Steven Knight and Benoit Swan Pouffer expressed their excitement for the return of the production. Knight highlighted the show’s success in attracting new audiences to live dance, while Pouffer emphasised the pride Rambert takes in presenting daring and adventurous work. Rambert remains committed to inspiring audiences on a national and international level, as they continue to bring the Peaky Blinders story to stages across the UK.
