Christmas tree farms and barns in Oxfordshire

Tis that time of year! Whether you want to pick a live Christmas tree and have it cut for you, buy a Christmas tree already cut or buy a living tree in a container, here are the tree farms and barns where you can purchase fresh-cut Christmas trees in Oxfordshire and in a few cases you can even “cut your own” tree.


The Tree Barn at Christmas Common, Watlington

Three times winner of The Best Tree competition and supplier of the Christmas tree to No.10 Downing Street, The Tree Barn is a small family business that, for only a few weeks each year during the run-up to Christmas, opens its doors to the public to purchase beautiful homegrown Christmas Trees.

Varieties on offer include the Norman Spruce, Serbian Spruce, Cock Bark Fir and Nordman Fir grown on the farm. Christmas shop opens on Saturday, 29 October 2022, and closes at noon on Christmas eve.

The shop is open 7 days per week from 9.00am to 5.30pm, with late-night shopping on Thursdays and Fridays until 7.30pm. Tree sales from 9.00am on Saturday, 19 November, to noon on Christmas eve.

You can order your tree online for collection or delivery, but please note deliveries begin on Wednesday, 23 November.

Bunkers Hill Plant Nursery, Kidlington

Bunkers Hill Plant Nursery is a small family-run nursery situated 8 miles north of Oxford and just 2 miles from Blenheim Palace near Woodstock, where you can choose your tree from hundreds of freshly cut Christmas trees in their ‘Forest’.

Their Christmas trees range from small 3ft trees right up to 12ft+ specimens, with a choice of traditional Norway spruces with bright green foliage or popular blue non-needle-drop Nordmann Firs. 

If you want a tree to plant in the garden after Christmas, there will also be a good selection of pot-grown trees available from early December.

From early December, they will also have masses of holly wreaths, fruit wreaths, bundles of holly and mistletoe for sale at the nursery (in all shapes and sizes).

Hadsham Farm, Banbury

Hadsham Farm is a traditional family-run farm in Horley in the rolling countryside of North Oxfordshire at the northern edge of the Cotswolds. Each December, the farm is open to the public for Pick-your-own Christmas Trees.

They have been growing hundreds of Christmas trees for over a decade and offer two varieties to choose from – Traditional and Nordman. Both hold their needles well because they are freshly cut for you (provided they are watered!). Expect trees of all shapes and sizes, subject to a minimum height of 5ft.

Over the weekends of Saturday, 03 and Sunday, 04 December, and Saturday, 10 and Sunday, 11 December, the farm will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm for you to take a festive walk through the fields to select your tree. It will then be freshly cut down by one of our team and wrapped (in netting) for you to take home.

Highfield Trees, Marsh Baldon

Highfield Trees are grown where they are sold, in Marsh Baldon, Oxfordshire. They have been lovingly tendered all year, ready for your family to enjoy during the Christmas season.

They plan to open on Thursday, 24 November, and a large selection of premium freshly cut Christmas trees will be available every day (from 10.00am to 4.00pm) until Friday, 23 December. The varieties on offer are the Norway Spruce and the Nordmann.

For anyone on a tight budget, it’s worth noting that alongside their usual array of premium trees, they will also have a range of budget trees (still cut fresh from the field) at low prices. These trees may have some imperfections. The budget trees will have green labels on them.

Farmer Gow’s, Faringdon

In Farmer Gow’s Christmas tree barn (where the trees are stored away from the rain), you can make your purchase into an experience by warming up by the wood-burning stove with a cup of hot chocolate before you choose your tree.

Locally grown Nordmann Fir, Lasio Carpa Fir, Frazer Fir, Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce and Serbian Spruce are available from £17 upwards. Plus, stunning handmade wreaths, table decorations, garlands and mistletoe.

Open daily from Thursday, 20 October (10.00am to 5.00pm) until Friday, 23 December. You can also order online for Delivery or Click & Collect. Both options are available. One delivery charge covers as many items as you wish, so you can buy a tree, stand, wreath, decorations, farm meats, and firewood, and if they can all be delivered together, you pay just one delivery charge.

Oxford Sea Cadets, Oxford

Oxford Sea Cadets has a good selection of Christmas Trees for sale at their Donnington Bridge Road Headquarters in east Oxford.

The Cadets have been selling their trees for over forty years and have on offer Nordmann Fir Trees from 110cm to 250cm, along with a selection of stands and decorations.

The Sea Cadet Corps are a national charity providing young people (10 to 18 years) with different adventures and opportunities like no other.

The annual Christmas Trees Sale is the main fundraising event to support the unit all year round. All profits from this event go to providing cadet experiences and training.

You can pre-order trees online now. The trees will be available from late November.

Appleton Christmas Barn at Appleton

Appleton Christmas Barn has been selling Christmas Trees from their farm for over 75 years, and for many families, the visit to pick out their tree has become a Christmas tradition in itself.

The Christmas Decorations Shop will be open daily from 10.00am to 6:00 pm (open late on Thursday & Friday until 8.00pm) from Saturday, 12 November, to Friday, 23 December. 

Freshly cut Christmas trees on offer will include Nordman Fir, Fraser Fir, Lodgepole Pine & Alpine Fir trees. The Fir varieties of Christmas trees will be available from Friday, 25 November, while the Spruce varieties will be available later from Friday, 02 December.
