The first bank holiday of the year (it’s a double!) usually means parties, long brunches, vast lunches and opportunities to soak up spring - a chance to celebrate renewal and hope.
One of the best ways to celebrate Easter in Oxford and across Oxfordshire is to spend time discovering the beautiful countryside and the great outdoors. And one of our favourite outdoor pastimes is the Easter trail and egg hunt.
When you’re not hunting for Easter eggs, head over to see some of the county’s finest themed attractions. And whether you go to church or find religion in the city’s best places to dine outdoors, don your Sunday best, kick up your heels and enjoy some of the county’s finest seasonal dishes.
In case the weather is lousy, there are plenty of indoor Easter events (and indoor egg hunts) too. From exhibitions and experience days to concerts and live performances.
This is a curated list of events, days out, things to do and places to visit in Oxford and across Oxfordshire, as well as unmissable events within two hours drive of the city that would make for a great day out.

Family fun
The annual Stonor Easter Trail will run every day between the 09 to 24 of April. Follow the trail around Tumblestone Hollow and the Gardens at Stonor, exploring and playing as you go along. Solve the puzzle and bring it back the to Visitor Centre to receive a treat.
Hop on board the miniature railway built and developed by the voluntary efforts of the members of the City of Oxford Society of Model Engineers (COSME) at the Cutteslowe Park Miniature Railway situated in Cutteslowe Park in the north of Oxford.
Join the Big Easter Bunny Hunt around the ornamental gardens at Waterperry. Find them all and claim a special Easter prize. Children must be accompanied by an adult for whom the garden entrance fee applies. Gardens are open daily from 10.00am till 5.30pm.
Exhibitions
Camille Pissarro (1830–1903) is one of the most celebrated artists of 19th-century France. This major exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum draws on works from the Ashmolean’s collections as well as international loans and spans Pissarro’s entire career.

This exhibition explores the work of distinguished printmaker Naoko Matsubara (b. 1937), who donated 100 works to the Ashmolean in 2019. The human hand, one of the most challenging subjects for any artist, is a theme that Naoko has explored since the birth of her son in 1973.
In 2019 Ali Kazim, one of the most exciting contemporary artists working in Pakistan today, became the first South Asian artist-in-residence at the Ashmolean Museum. This exhibition is informed by the time spent in the Ashmolean.

Julie Bennett, Josie Clouting, Michael Restrick and Lu Willis: Myth
The folktales of the Nordic lands, the spell of the ancient Greeks, the charms of Imperial Japan, and the allure of the classical goddesses...Myth offers a new visual perspective on these perennial tales, by four artists who met by chance.
Theatre

Run by the Thames Valley Farmers’ Market Co-operative, Abingdon Farmers’ Market showcases lots of local producers who would love to tell you about their products. Sample and savour the fresh produce of the local district and meet local farmers, growers and producers.

Visit Woodstock Farmers’ Market for a wide range of fresh local produce. Stay and discover all that the town has to offer, with many of the independent shops promoting offers with their newly arrived spring stock and personal service.
The East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market is a small, friendly local market with plenty of fresh food, delicious sweet and savoury takeaways, dried foods, and a plant-based café. The market also features several non-food stalls.

South Oxford Farmers and Community Market
The South Oxford Farmers and Community Market is a weekly market selling local, seasonal food and non-food goods, where ‘Local’ means produced within a 30-mile radius of Oxford. The market is held in the courtyard of the South Oxford Community Centre on Lake Street.
Summertown Farmers Market is a community market that aims to bring new generation farmers market to the high street. The market hosts a wide range of fresh local and organic producers and street food vendors and a few non-food treats traders.
