Christmas at Blenheim Palace 2020

Christmas at Blenheim Palace 2020

There's always a festive treat at Blenheim Palace, and despite all that has happened this year, Christmas is still happening at Blenheim Palace, although a little differently this year.

From the Heart of the Stars scattering shards of light across the lawn to a scented fire garden that adorns the Water Terrace, there are bright lights for winter nights in the 2020 Blenheim Palace illuminated light trail. Walk towards dynamic, colour-changing neon tunnels, lakeside reflections and onto a mesmerising place where, beneath the branches of a sprawling tree, softly glows the fairy-fire known as Will-o-the-Wisps.

Chirstmas at Blenheim Palace - Light Trail

Unlike last year, where the magic of "Alice in Wonderland" was exquisitely captured in an enchanting experience, sadly there isn't a theme in the palace this year. There are some decorated Christmas trees throughout for a little festive feel. And although the halls are not decked as much, the lit fires give a warm welcome to the lavish staterooms.

Make some time to enjoy the contemporary art exhibition by Cecily Brown. Made up entirely of new works inspired by the Palace’s collection, this major solo exhibition by the acclaimed British artist features British heritage and aristocracy as it's subject. We were fortunate to have attended before lockdown, and you'll find a rather handy review of the exhibition here.

And, if so any reason, you can't make it to Blenheim Palace this Christmas, hopefully, things will be back to some degree of normality this time next year for you to see the story of The Nutcracker adorn Blenheim Palace for Christmas 2021.

The festive atmosphere of the Christmas market set against the magnificent backdrop of the Palace is one major part of Christmas at Blenheim, that sadly, will be missing this year as the Blenheim Palace Christmas Market 2020 was cancelled.

But if you miss the wooden chalets filled with a variety of hand-picked, irresistible gifts and tempting treats then here are some pictures from 2019 for you to reminisce.
